Join Burn Survivors of New England (BSOFNE) for the "14th Annual Dinner & Dance Fundraiser". This special evening of dining and dance raises charitable funding for burn survivors and related programs.
Among causes BSOFNE seeks to honor and support this year is for burn survivor Chi-Chi Omeje and her mother Helen. Chinonye Omeje (also known as Chi Chi) lived in Nigeria where she was barred from school because of epilepsy. She suffered an epileptic seizure when she was 14 years old while stirring a pot of scalding hot soup over a flame. She fell into the pot, and thus her eyes were blinded and her nose, lips, right ear and eyelids were severely burned. She barely survived. The kindness of others enabled them to come to America for medical treatment. Though a tremendous blessing and help, their long stay in America has separated them from Helen's other children - one of which has recently been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Helen desperately desires to find a way back to Nigeria to see her terminally ill child. Funds are needed to cover Helen's travel expense and the care of Chi-Chi while her mother is away in Nigeria. (Donations for Chi-Chi can also be sent to the Chinonye Omeje Victory Fund : Citizens Bank, 1575 Blue Hill Ave., Mattapan, MA 02126).
